ELDEN RING 5 TIPS FOR EMBARKING ON THIS MASTERFUL ADVENTURE
A masterful work, Elden Ring and its open world can come across as fascinating and oppressive to new players. Here are our tips for getting started.
If regulars of the Dark Souls series will be able to quickly find certain strategies, Elden Ring is nonetheless a work that has its own approach.
The protagonist that we play, a Sans-Eclat, enters a universe both vast and desolate whose nature and architecture have been shattered, while an impressive bestiary populates these windswept lands.
And like any game signed From Software, the fights are tough, often brutal and fast. However, its creator Itedaka Miyazaki – supported by George RR Martin (Game of Thrones) to lay the foundations – thought of proposing new approaches which often prove to be more salutary and motivating than in his previous more punitive titles (Sekiro or Bloodborne). Keep hope because Elden Ring is a constant invitation to adventure and a mind-blowing title.
CHOOSE YOUR CHARACTER WISELY
This is the first step available to you when you launch Elden Ring. And if it is interesting to choose a character to which you will be attached, the fact remains that each one has its advantages and disadvantages to begin with. Ten classes will therefore be offered to you, each allowing you to choose between a man and a woman. Vagabond, warrior, hero, bandit, astrologer, prophet, samurai, prisoner, confessor and destitute.
Know from the outset that regardless of the class chosen at the start, the differences that you will notice will fade after several dozen hours of adventures, since you can develop your character as you see fit. However, if you prefer to rely on magic, it is better to start with a character naturally predisposed for it, and vice versa for a character who will bet on his physical strength.
Among the most interesting choices, we can highlight the astrologer for those who wish to bet on sorcery and ranged attacks, and the samurai who offers an excellent balance for melee duels with his powerful katana and longbow for operate remotely. The character to avoid during a first game is undoubtedly the destitute, who embarks on the adventure at level 1, without equipment or armor. Practically naked, you will have to fight hard from the start.
QUICKLY FIND YOUR MOUNT
If there is a compulsory passage to move in front of the immensity of the plains of Elden Ring, it is to obtain as quickly as possible a steed which will allow you to travel quickly and even to take the upper hand during your outdoor clashes. . Named Torrent, your magical mount will be some kind of spectral horned horse. To get it you must first go through the tutorial phase at the very beginning of the game. When you go outside for the first time, after the crypt of your debut, a first save point (called site of grace) will appear before you. By observing its yellow light, you will see that it presents a luminous arc which will indicate the direction to follow.
Then look away and you will see the entrance to a first castle. See you there. You will thus discover another site of grace just in front of the entrance. Rest in place. You will then meet Melina, a young woman who will give you a whistle to call Torrent. An animal that is interesting to exploit for certain fights, in particular to mow down enemies in full gallop.
VENTURE INTO HIS FIRST DUNGEON
If taking your first steps in Elden Ring can seem intimidating, the odyssey can be done without too many shocks, if you venture in the right places. We also advise you to take advantage of the first hours of play to confront the small fry (soldiers, zombies, animals…). The idea here is to collect runes that you can then spend to develop your character (experience, equipment…).
Before heading to the first “dungeon”, be sure to equip yourself with a torch. This can be purchased from the first merchant, named Kalé, whom you will encounter in the ruined church near your very first drop point. The torch will allow you to guide you through the gloomy underground. And that’s good because our first tip is to discover a cave that is hidden on the west coast of your map. Going down on the sand, you can discover the opening of a cave. You will be able to confront enemies that are relatively easy to take down with a few small treasures. But where this level is interesting is in the idea of accessing the island visible to the southwest of the map. You will then discover an island without hostile creatures,
WHICH EQUIPMENT TO CHOOSE?
Like any good role-playing game, Elden Ring supposes equipping your character as well as possible and above all according to the enemies and bosses you are going to face. In your journey you will find several objects, weapons and pieces of armor in particular. Not all of them mean that they will be useful to you. Do not hesitate to resell them. However, take the time to look at their attributes in your equipment menu. Some may be more effective in countering an enemy’s effects. Also beware of protective armor that is too heavy, it will limit your dodges and your dexterity, which can be penalizing. Finally, a forge system improves the capabilities of your weapons. An important point that can make a big difference with the same weapon against a tough enemy.
SPEND YOUR RUNES WISELY
Your actions, your discoveries and your fights will earn you runes. And Elden Ring invites you to spend them carefully, either to improve your hero’s experience, or by buying equipment or acquiring special skills or strengthening your weapons. As soon as you have won your first victories, it is important to go to the different save points (grace site) that you have crossed to spend your runes there to increase your character’s experience (it is up to you to choose which point you want to optimize) .
The idea here is not to lose your achievements along the way, because all the runes you earn can be lost along the way if you are knocked down by an enemy. Before going to face a boss, remember to spend the runes and save, otherwise they will remain in his between, which will force you to go get them on the spot.
